Electronic Sheep

Brenda Aherne and Helen Delany are the spirited Irish design duo behind the graphically patterned knitwear label Electronic Sheep. They established the label in 1999 and are based in London (Helen) and Dublin (Brenda). They graduated from Dublin’s National College of Art and Design (Brenda in Fashion, Helen in Graphic Design), and also learnt their craft in stints at Central St Martins, De Montfort University and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Electronic Sheep are known for their strong visuals, detailed jacquards, inventive use of colour and unexpected variations. For AW14 pastels, monotones and muted colour are the basis. To create more 2D effects the designers have experimented with leather, knit appliqué, quilting, basket weave and piques. Electronic Sheep design signatures are inventive, illustrative knitted accessories: hooded triangle scarves/stoles, circulars scarves and turbans. Jumbo knitted over-tops and outer garments.

The inspiration behind Electronic Sheep’s AW14 collection is personal scrapbooks and past memories. The ephemera collected over the last 20 years by the designers ranges from bus tickets, biker stickers, old polaroids/photos to torn wallpaper and drinks labels. Any interesting or meaningful scraps that the designers collected on their travels were stuck in their scrapbooks and notebooks over the years and sat on a shelf for keep sake - until now...
